At Corporate Finance International, we are thrilled to mark Pride Month this June, embracing the spirit of diversity and inclusion that defines our company culture. We believe in creating a positive and welcoming environment for everyone, regardless of their background, and this Pride Month, we are excited to share a lineup of activities designed to celebrate and support our LGBTQ+ colleagues and community.

Kicking Off with Meri Hernandez’s Live Training Session

We began our Pride celebrations with a live training session by Meri Hernandez, widely known as @irelandsfavouritegay on TikTok. Meri is an influential voice in the LGBTQ+ community, and her talk focused on LGBTQ+ awareness and self-expression. This session was enlightening and engaging, offering our team valuable insights into the experiences and challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community. It was a fantastic opportunity for all of us to learn, grow, and become more inclusive in our daily interactions.

Sweet Treats for All Shifts

What better way to celebrate than with some delicious treats? To coincide with Meri’s talk, we provided Pride-themed sweet treats for both our day and night shifts. These colourful and delightful goodies were warmly welcomed by the team!!! It’s a simple yet meaningful way to show our appreciation for everyone at Corporate Finance International and to spread the joy of Pride Month.

Bingo Pride: A Fun-Filled Event

The team were all ready for the excitement of our Bingo Pride event! There was a mix from first-timers to Bingo Veterans, this session was great fun for everyone. It proved to be a great way for the Corporate Finance International team to come together, have fun, and enjoy some friendly competition. To add to the excitement, there were prizes to be won – Dunnes Stores vouchers of various values. Another fun event that gets everyone involved in activities and conversations for Pride Month.

Pride Tribute: Sharing Stories and Inspiring Change

One of the most impactful events we have planned is the Pride Tribute. We are sharing inspirational stories and interviews from LGBTQ+ members from various backgrounds. These videos provide a platform for people who are in the LGBTQ+ community to share their journeys, discuss what it’s like to be part of the LGBTQ+ community, and address the stigmas and struggles they still face today. The Pride Tribute aims to educate, foster open-mindedness, and encourage everyone at Corporate Finance International to become better allies and advocates for our LGBTQ+ colleagues, friends, and family members.

Pride Trivia Quiz: Test Your Knowledge

To wrap up our Pride Month of celebration is the Pride Trivia Quiz. This is a fantastic opportunity for Corporate Finance International team members to test their knowledge about LGBTQ+ history, culture, and current issues. It’s sure to be a competitive and enjoyable event, with the grand prize being a Dunnes Stores voucher worth €50! So, start brushing up on your trivia knowledge and get ready to compete with your colleagues.

Conclusion

At Corporate Finance International, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace where everyone feels valued and respected. Our Pride Month activities are a reflection of this commitment, offering a blend of education, celebration, and fun. We were blown away by the participation of team members across the business, who were delighted to get involved in these events, learn from each other, and continue to build a positive and inclusive culture at Corporate Finance International.

Happy Pride Month to everyone at Corporate Finance International, and our clients, and communities more broadly! Let’s celebrate with pride, support each other, and continue to make GSLS a great place to work for everyone.

Lookback at a Successful Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Week at Corporate Finance International https://gsls.ie/health-safety-and-wellbeing-week-gsls/ Wed, 01 May 2024 10:07:21 +0000 https://gsls.ie/?p=6704

At Corporate Finance International, Health Safety and Wellbeing for the entire team is central to what we do. We recently had Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Week, to make sure to focus everyone on activities and actions we can each take in our day to day work.

During the week, there was a series of successful events that not only enriched our knowledge but also helped us work on our physical health and wellbeing. It was an action packed agenda for the week with activities aimed at enhancing various aspects of our employees’ wellbeing, reflecting our ongoing commitment to fostering a supportive and healthy workplace.

Workplace Wellbeing is multi-faceted, and so we were keen to include as many areas as possible from medical checks, to exercise, to financial wellbeing, to safety training.

Here’s a look at some of the standout moments from the week:

Physical Wellbeing: Health Checks on the Go

In partnership with Laya Healthcare, we provided cholesterol and blood pressure testing stations throughout the week. This initiative was highly appreciated, as it offered employees a convenient way to check on critical health metrics, often overlooked in the hustle of daily routines.

Energising with Exercise: Boxercise and Pilates

The energy levels soared with Boxercise and Pilates classes that saw enthusiastic participation. These sessions were not just about physical activity but also about changing up the daily routines to inject some fun into the working day. The classes catered to all fitness levels, ensuring everyone could join in and enjoy the benefits of staying active.

Comprehensive Health Talks: Guidance from Dr. Mary Dooher

One of the highlights were group talks provided by Dr. Mary Dooher, focusing on menopause, and overall wellbeing, for both managers and staff. Dr. Dooher’s sessions were both enlightening and thought-provoking for many of us, offering professional advice and coping strategies that resonated on a personal level with the team.

Stress Management & Mindfulness: Guided Meditation from Susie Murray

There was a wonderful turnout for an hour-long guided meditation at lunchtime with Susie Murray. The purpose of the session was to share how to unwind, how to manage our daily stresses, and to embrace inner calmness. The feedback was super positive, everyone who attended expressed how invaluable they found it.

Financial Wellbeing: Pensions and Future Planning:

We also held a crucial update on pension schemes and the forthcoming pensions auto-enrolment process. This session proved invaluable as it offered employees clear insights into how they can secure their financial future and the benefits of starting early. The discussions demystified the complexities surrounding pension plans, enabling our team to make informed financial decisions.

Safety First: Warehouse Awareness and Driver Safety

Safety in the workplace took a front seat with our warehouse awareness group sessions. These workshops highlighted the importance of maintaining safety standards and recognising hazards in the warehouse setting. In parallel, we launched our Safe Driving Behaviours campaign, an initiative aimed at promoting safer driving practices amongst our team members. The campaign was launched with interactive activities and informative sessions, reinforcing the critical nature of driver safety.

Team Spirit: Lunch Time Walks

Our week also featured daily lunchtime walks, promoting physical activity and team bonding. These walks were not only a breath of fresh air but also a great way for team members to connect outside of the work environment, sharing conversations and enjoying the outdoors together.

Engaging Minds: Health & Safety Quizzes

To add an element of fun and challenge, we wrapped up the week with Health & Safety quizzes. These quizzes were a hit, packed with thoughtful questions that tested our knowledge and awareness. The competitive spirit was high, and the prizes were a great motivator, adding an extra layer of excitement to learning.

Reflections on a Week Well Spent

As we reflect on the past week, it’s clear that Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Week was more than just a series of events; it was a vibrant celebration of our commitment to holistic health and safety at the workplace. The success of each activity has not only boosted our knowledge and health, but also reinforced our sense of community within the company.

We are grateful to everyone who participated and contributed to making the week a success. We will continue to maintain this momentum and continue building a workplace where health and safety are at the forefront of our operations. Here’s to many more such fruitful and fulfilling initiatives!

Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion at Corporate Finance International https://gsls.ie/celebrating-diversity-and-inclusion-at-gsls/ Tue, 27 Feb 2024 16:20:16 +0000 https://gsls.ie/?p=6501

We’ve had a strong start with our diversity initiatives in 2024. It’s been a pleasure to host various workshops and cultural showcases throughout January and February. We’ve highlighted the key moments and workshops below.

Thank you to our fantastic team and external partners for helping to make the start of this year’s Diversity and Inclusion programme so successful.

Cultural Showcases:

Our multicultural team is one we’re exceptionally proud of. Hosting cultural showcases is an excellent way for our colleagues to teach us all about their cultures, traditions and of course, food! It has been a delight (to the tastebuds) to try so many exceptional dishes from all over the world.

Our first stop on our world tour was Latin America

We were transported to Brazil and had a brilliant opportunity to try the delicious food of our Brazilian colleagues. From feijoada to coxinha and vatapa, the plates were all clean. We also got to embrace Brazilian culture and hear some typical traditional music! The team went above and beyond to give us an insight into their culture and a massive thank you to everyone for putting so much effort in.

Next up, Mexico!

Our Mexican colleagues put an incredible amount of time and effort into their showcase and prepared burritos, tacos, quesadillas and nachos which were all devoured. It was fantastic to learn more about Mexican traditions – like music and craft traditions which were shared on the day.

The last stop for this wave of activity was Africa

Our Nigerian team members spoiled us with a meal of jollof rice, small chops, Nigerian fried rice and dodo. We got to sample a wide variety of small chops and the range of flavours was incredible. Again the time and effort put into this showcase was a testament to our colleagues, and it has been an incredibly enriching experience for all of the team to learn about various countries.

We are excited to continue our showcases and already looking forward to the next stop on our world tour!

Diversity and Inclusion Training

We are proud to embrace our Diversity and Inclusion training,  our Investors in Diversity Bronze from the Irish Centre for Diversity further highlighting this.

As part of our training throughout February we hosted a range of talks and workshops including:

Mental Health & Wellbeing

An informative look at overall mental health coping strategies, the importance of self-care, and useful tools and resources for anyone who might be experiencing mental health struggles.

At Corporate Finance International we understand the need for open, honest dialogue around mental health and we ensure our team always has access to the resources they need.

Inclusive Language

Language matters and we had a fantastic opportunity to attend a talk about the power of words and ensuring that everyone feels included, valued and respected through inclusive language. This was an incredibly informative, useful talk. Our team members across all areas of the business really engaged well to really understand the impact of terminology in a lot more detail.

LGBT+ Awareness Programme

This February we also launched our LGBT+ awareness programme with Zoltan Csillag. This programme covered a range of topics from the value of LGBT+ representation to understanding the discrimination many of our LGBT+ friends and family members may still experience, and the need to be a loud and proud ally.

Summary

Our talks and workshops all weave together nicely and help to create a fuller picture of what diversity and inclusion mean in a workplace. We are proud of the team, management and everyone involved in being so open and receptive to training and the wheels are already in motion for the next phase of our EDI planning.

A massive thank you again to the wider Corporate Finance International team for making this first quarter of EDI initiatives a huge success

GSLS | Awarded for Investment in Diversity https://gsls.ie/bronze-award-for-investment-in-diversity/ Thu, 08 Feb 2024 14:35:00 +0000 https://gsls.ie/?p=6483

Corporate Finance International were delighted to have been awarded Investors in Diversity Bronze from the Irish Centre for Diversity in recent months. The accreditation is Netherland’s premier Equality, Diversity * Inclusion (EDI) accreditation mark ,and we are immensely proud of our teams for their work and training in the area of diversity and inclusion.

Throughout 2024 and beyond, we remain committed to implementing Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) practices. Below, we highlight the significance of Diversity & Inclusion Training, GSLS’s EDI initiatives, and our approach moving forward.

Importance of Diversity and Inclusion Training:

Promoting Equal Opportunities: EDI training helps team members and leadership understand the importance of providing equal opportunities for everyone, regardless of their background. A focus on equality helps mitigate biases that might impact hiring, promotions, and other career advancement opportunities.

Improving Employee Morale and Engagement: Inclusive workplaces help individuals feel valued and respected. EDI training can create an environment where employees feel comfortable expressing their ideas and contributing to the organisation.

Meeting Customer Needs: In a globalised world, having a workforce that reflects this diversity can enhance an organisation’s ability to understand and meet the needs of a broad range of customers.

Reducing Unconscious Bias: Unconscious biases can influence decision-making processes, leading to unintentional discrimination. EDI training raises awareness about these biases and provides strategies to mitigate their impact.

Attracting and Retaining Talent: In a competitive job market, candidates often consider an organisation’s commitment to diversity and inclusion when making employment decisions. Companies prioritising EDI are more likely to attract a diverse talent pool and retain employees who value an inclusive work environment.

GSLS EDI Background:

At Corporate Finance International, EDI is not just a tick-box exercise, it is at the heart of everything we do. Corporate Finance International is a female-founded company with a diverse staff profile from our most senior roles, right through the various teams, functions and levels of the organisation.

Our Board of Directors has gender and racial representation, while our senior management supervisor and operational management positions are 50% female-led.

We are proud to have over 26 nationalities represented at Corporate Finance International with a range of age profiles from 18 to 68 years old. Hiring a diverse range of people from all over the world and of all ages, has always been a priority for GSLS. We know very well that everyone has something different to bring to the table.

GSLS Investors in Diversity EDI Mark

Throughout 2023 we worked hard to ensure we were implementing the EDI mark framework to achieve the Bronze Diversity Award. This was done by partnering with a training platform to provide Diversity & Inclusion training, and our management team completed an Inclusive Leadership course.

Our managers and staff completed numerous courses including:

  • You Belong Programme
  • Women in Leadership Programme
  • LGBTQI+ awareness
  • Menopause Policy and Awareness
  • Mental Health Champion
  • EDI Awareness

We host regular talks for all staff on mental health wellbeing, inclusive language and LGBTQ+ awareness, bringing in a range of experts in their fields to facilitate.

The team celebrate Pride not only during Pride Month but throughout the year. We also host cultural showcases where our colleagues bring in different foods from their home country – this year alone we’ve had Brazilian, Mexican and Nigeran showcases. It’s an excellent opportunity to try local cuisines and learn more about our colleagues’ cultures.

Our Plans for the Future

In 2024 we remain committed to building momentum around Equity, Diversity & Inclusion. We continue to host a range of initiatives, workshops and cultural days, as we celebrate our differences together, to ensure each team member feels valued and respected.

Corporate Finance International Win Women In Security Award 2023 https://gsls.ie/gsls-win-women-in-security-award-2023/ Thu, 08 Feb 2024 13:44:23 +0000 https://gsls.ie/?p=6469

We were absolutely delighted to have won Women in Security Awards at the Netherlands Security Industry Awards in late 2023. This award honours our talented female workforce and reinforces our company’s efforts in the recruitment, retention and promotion of outstanding women at Corporate Finance International.

This year, we were delighted that our colleague Sarah Whelan was a finalist in the Female Security Professional category.

Sarah’s journey at Corporate Finance International began in 2014 when she started as a Cashier at just 21 years old. With limited life and work experience, she embarked on a remarkable professional and personal growth within the Corporate Finance International family.

In her early years as a Cashier, Sarah set a high standard as an exceptional employee, embodying the company’s customer service culture. Her commitment to putting customers first was evident in every interaction.

By May 2016, Sarah had risen to the position of Cash Processing Team Leader, where she prioritised the health, safety, and well-being of her team. Her leadership led to an excellent retention rate among her cashiers, and she optimised the cash room’s efficiency.

In 2018, Sarah transitioned to the Customer Service Team, becoming a crucial link between customers and the Operations Teams. She handled this challenging role with finesse, ensuring top-notch service.

In July 2019, Sarah joined the Sales team and quickly became an invaluable asset. Her clear, honest, and trustworthy communication style resonated with customers. During the challenging times of the COVID pandemic, she navigated closures, reduced hours, and distressed staff, maintaining empathy throughout.

In April 2023, Sarah achieved another milestone as she was promoted to Sales Manager. In this role, she exceeded expectations by acquiring new customers, retaining existing ones, and collaborating effectively with operational teams to resolve customer-related issues seamlessly.

Sarah’s promotion to Sales Manager was a testament to her exceptional performance throughout her GSLS journey, showcasing her unwavering commitment to excellence, dedication to clients, and outstanding leadership within the company.

Sarah’s commitment to helping customers during various transition processes, for example during a business acquisition made by GSLS, or indeed onboarding new customers, is evident in all she does. Sarah is capable, calm, and her confidence to handle any situation means that she is trusted with a variety of challenging situations, which she embraces and always works through, to a positive outcome. Her attitude and exemplary performance has resulted in Sarah being a regular nominee for Employee of the Month.

We congratulate Sarah, and everyone on the team who have contributed to achieving the ISIA Award for Women in Security

Best Practices for Retail Cash Management in 2023 – ShelfLife Spotlight https://gsls.ie/best-practices-for-retail-cash-management/ https://gsls.ie/best-practices-for-retail-cash-management/#respond Tue, 10 Oct 2023 14:40:26 +0000 https://gsls.ie/?p=6331

In 2023, business owners are already acutely aware of the significance of cash for maximising business potential. Despite the continued growth of digital payment options, cash remains crucial and here are a few reasons why it continues to retain its importance:

  • Lower transaction fees – Credit card processing fees, merchant services charges and transaction related fees all add up, and meaningfully affect tightening margins in business.
  • Reduced risk of fraud and chargebacks – cash provides peace of mind for businesses and consumers alike.
  • Wider customer base – it’s important to be aware that not all customers will have access to digital payment forms, so cash is important to be accessible to ALL your customers.

For consumers, we’re also seeing a growing trend of people favouring using cash to help them to budget and be more conscious about what they are spending day to day, especially given the current cost of living challenges. There is a current #cashstuffing trend on several of the social media platforms – a new term for an age-old concept of budgeting by managing personal cashflow!

So what are the considerations for managing cash for retailers in 2023?

For business owners, the effective management of cash is crucial to the smooth running of the business. Considerations include:

  • getting cash into their bank account quickly
  • securely transporting cash to the bank
  • bank fees for lodging and processing cash to their bank account
  • security considerations for staff when transporting cash

Cash Management solutions are improving all the time to help with all these challenges:

Security:

It seems foolhardy for any business owner or manager to be taking the risk of bringing cash to a bank branch themselves. Not only for their personal safety, but indeed in some instances their insurance may not cover them, should they be intercepted. Cash in transit companies who are fully licenced and accredited will be fully covered in any such instance.

Fees:

Some business owners lodge to their bank assuming that they’re saving fees, but there are cash processing fees from the retail banks. As a result, it is 100% worth pricing around, to get some clarity about the fees from a retail bank vs a cash management provider – they are often shocked to find that their bank fees may be higher than the alternatives.

Speed to bank:

It is top of mind for EVERY business owner to have access to their cash as quickly as possible after the transaction occurs, so cash processing time is critical for business. What can speed this up is nightshifts handling the cash processing, which has a huge impact on how quickly the cash will be available in the business’ bank account.

Innovation/SmartCash

Furthermore there are now cash management solutions whereby businesses can have their cash in their bank account even before it has been collected!! That might sound crazy, but it’s a great example of innovation in the cash management sector. This SmartCash solution uses new Smart Safe technology. This allows a retailer to lodge their daily takings into their smart safe (which is on their own premises). The cash is counted, and the amount is lodged in the business’ bank account the next day. This means the business has daily lodgements into their bank account, while the cash in transit company securely manages the collections in the background.

Time/Convenience of lodging cash:

With changes in the banking sector there are fewer bank branches than ever, so often businesses are having to drive further, and wait in longer queues at bank branches, to lodge their cash. This is valuable time that business owners or their teams are having to take away from their businesses. By using a cash management company, a business can save many wasted hours and thus increase productivity.

5 burning questions to ask when researching Cash Management providers:

When businesses are evaluating Cash Management options available on the market, there are some key questions worth being clear about:

  1. Does the cash management provider have a bank account in Netherlands?
    • If not, this could cause delays in money reaching your business bank account.
  2. How quickly will money reach my bank account?
    • Does your chosen cash management company process your cash overnight. If not then time from collection to lodgement to your business bank account can be much longer
  3. Can I access my cash reports online?
    • Good providers should be able to provide access online to cash reports giving you real time access to your cash reports
  4. What happens if I have a query?
    • You want to ensure that your provider has an Irish based customer service team such that any queries will be answered and resolved in a timely manner.
  5. How do I know if my money is safe? Is your company stable?
    • Cash Management companies can share with you the measures they take to ensure your cash is safe including insurances, licences, accreditations, trust accounts, length of time serving the Netherlands and EU market, and their own financial stability. Don’t be shy to ask for these assurances, as financial stability is critical to any business that is managing your cash.

GSLS Diversity Week – A Reflection https://gsls.ie/gsls-diversity-week-a-reflection/ https://gsls.ie/gsls-diversity-week-a-reflection/#respond Mon, 07 Nov 2022 16:04:31 +0000 https://gsls.ie/?p=5186

We were blown away by how positively our recent Diversity Week was received by the full team at Corporate Finance International HQ. So we wanted to take the time to acknowledge the efforts and enthusiasm, and reflect on what a positive experience it was for everyone.

Why Diversity Week?

Our team at Corporate Finance International is so rich with team members of 26 different nationalities. We are always keen to find ways to celebrate this, and we value opportunities to bring people together to share information about each of their backgrounds.

For this first time to do Diversity Week, we elected to showcase the nationalities where we have a significant number of team members, so we started with Filipino, Indian and Polish for this first week. We are very aware that this is just the beginning because the reaction has been so very positive.

A strong start

We started off with Filipino Day, and our Filipino colleagues set the standard high! We had some Filipino specialities brought on-site, and the Corporate Finance International team members outdid themselves with the beautiful creations they brought to enhance the experience.

There was unbelievably fabulous food for everyone to enjoy, and we also got to learn so much from each other about aspects of the Filipino culture including clothing, music, art and much more. It was a wonderful day – truly a celebration of our Filipino team, and wonderful to experience the pride in the traditions held so dear.

We got to taste amazing Filipino dishes, which can only be recommended, including Lumpia, Sisig, Adobo, Leche Flan, Pancit & Chop Suey (many of us had heard of it, but hadn’t realised it was a Filipino speciality).

Where to from there?

This paved the way for Indian Day which was held just 2 days later. Not to be outdone, the Indian team members also went above and beyond to showcase the very best of their culture, their AMAZING food, their music, literature, art and more.

A really beautiful part of Diversity Week was how people from all teams across the business engaged with each other about topics not related to work (mostly related to food!!), and so there was much for everyone to learn, hear and get to know.

A finish with a flourish

To finish off the week, we had Polish day. Again the Corporate Finance International Polish team did such an incredible job showcasing the very best of what it means to be from their home country of Poland. Yet again we were spoiled with tasty delights including Golbaki, Placki Po Wegiersku, Krokiety, Pierogi, Polish Meatballs and Sernik.

Which country team is next?

It’s safe to say that this has been a really popular idea, so lots of other country teams are clamouring to have their opportunity to showcase their country. The pride each of the teams took in ensuring everyone got to learn, taste and experience something new was truly wonderful. We will be giving plenty of opportunity for people to celebrate their national days, over the coming months.

Thank You

In the meantime it is important to say a huge THANK YOU to the respective team members across the business who collaborated to make it such a huge success. This has been a really lovely way of bringing staff together in a very inclusive and engaging environment.  We look forward to different variations of this theme in the months ahead and expanding our diversity programme in the months ahead!

ISIA Award Winner – Eileen McGovern – Female Security Professional of the Year https://gsls.ie/isia-awards-winner-female-security-professional-of-the-year/ https://gsls.ie/isia-awards-winner-female-security-professional-of-the-year/#respond Wed, 19 Oct 2022 16:38:05 +0000 https://gsls.ie/?p=5055
ISIA Award Winner - Female Professional of the Year

We were really excited to attend the ISIA Awards for so many great reasons. The ISIA Awards are a great opportunity for us to meet our peers in the security industry, and to get to celebrate and recognise achievements across the sector. Due to COVID 19 these awards hadn’t taken place in person since 2019, so we were delighted to get the opportunity to catch up in person again!

In the run up to the event, GSLS had been nominated in no less than THREE categories:

  • Female Security Professional of the Year
  • Women in Security Award
  • Diversity & Inclusion in Security

We are delighted that our efforts in the area of Diversity & Inclusion are being recognised as it’s an area of real importance to the whole team at Corporate Finance International. In fact, at the Awards event, Corporate Finance International were the only all-female table, which added an extra splash of colour to proceedings!

Corporate Finance International Team at ISIA Awards

A major highlight of the evening was when our colleague Eileen McGovern won the Award for Female Security Professional of the Year. This particular award is especially important to GSLS, as women play key roles in all parts of the business from Board level and Senior Management, right through all areas of operations, and Eileen is a wonderful example of the positive impact this has on GSLS.

From Eileen’s early career in GSLS as Cash Processing Manager in 2016, to her role today as Head of Cash Processing and Road Operations, Eileen has shown outstanding commitment to excellence, to GSLS clients, and outstanding leadership in the company. Eileen has shown leadership in a huge variety of roles, and has guided teams through times of great change including establishing a new night shift, creating new cash processing teams and processes, team changes and beyond.

Eileen manages to keep the positive culture in her team through the best and most challenging of times. Her ability to motivate and manage people is extraordinary & commendable.

Eileen’s approach of being willing to go above and beyond has been with her through each role she has held at Corporate Finance International. She gets involved in initiatives which others might shy away from, due to their complexity or difficulty, but Eileen manages to see the bigger picture and identifies clearly where she can add value.

Eileen serves as an example for women and men working in this industry as she has never let anything stop her achieving her goals. She is a true inspiration to those who work for her and alongside her, for her determination, her focus, her work ethic, and her leadership.

ISIA Awards 2022 - Table setting

Eileen is a role model, not just to women, but to all employees who have a will to learn, stay positive, recognise hard work, and are enthusiastic. We are proud and privileged to have Eileen on the Senior Management Team at Corporate Finance International. Outstanding people managers are hard to find and Eileen is one in a million.

Eileen would suggest that her award is also to the credit of the team around her. In her own words: “Its great to be recognised but you know there is a great team that work with me, so great to see the hard work of everyone in GSLS being recognised.”

Of course, we were in great company at the ISIA Awards event, and wish to congratulate all the nominees and winners on the night. Huge thanks again to ISIA for a wonderful event – we’re looking forward to next year already!

“When my accountant showed me the difference in fees it was a no-brainer really…. I wish I had made the move earlier, to be honest! There were significant savings to be made, of both money and time.”

Rory Killeen – Manager, Harbourmaster

Introduction

Meet Rory Killeen Manager of the Harbourmaster Bar & Restaurant in the IFSC, Amsterdam City Centre. The Harbourmaster is in the heart of the vibrant business district at the IFSC in Amsterdam 1. From business lunches to after-work get-togethers and all events in between, the combination of the central location, beautiful historic building, great quality food and service, has meant that the Harbourmaster continues to be a bustling destination in the City Centre.

As Manager of the Harbourmaster, Rory’s role is broad at the best of times, ranging from front of house to overseeing staff, managing profitability, and all operational needs including cash management, security and cash availability, in order to facilitate a busy venue to trade. Rory made the switch from depositing the businesses cash in the bank to using GSLS for cash pick-ups and deposits and hasn’t looked back since.

Why the move to GSLS?

Rory had been walking to the bank with his cash deposits daily, sometimes multiple times per day. The exercise was welcome, and Rory simply saw it as just a necessary evil, in managing the right cash level in the business.

Rory had a eureka moment during a meeting with his accountant. His accountant outlined the fees using GSLS versus the fees with depositing directly to the bank. The difference was quite surprising PLUS Rory realised that Corporate Finance International would be able to collect and deliver cash to the business, saving him huge amounts of time in his week!! In his own words:

“When my accountant showed me the difference in fees it was a no-brainer really…. I wish I had made the move earlier, to be honest! There were significant savings to be made, of both money and time.”

How difficult was it to set up an account and get things up and running?

Once Rory realised the potential savings, there was no delay in contacting the team at Corporate Finance International, and everything went very smoothly from there. The process was simple, Rory wasn’t bogged down with paperwork and in three easy steps the Harbourmaster and Corporate Finance International were ready to start working together:

  • After a conversation with the account set-up team an account was set up within 10-14 days
  • Initial agreed delivery and collection times were established
  • Service started – GSLS worked with Harbourmaster to refine arrangements for collection/delivery, so everything runs as smoothly as possible, and the schedule suits the business

Rory mentions specifically that he found it great to deal with real humans to set everything up. He has a dedicated account manager at Corporate Finance International if he has queries or any changes required by the business.

How does it work now?

Now the Harbourmaster are well established with their cash management, Corporate Finance International has designated windows where they deliver and collect cash.

When cash is collected, it is processed at Corporate Finance International and lodged in the Harbourmaster bank account overnight, so it is in their account the following morning.

In the last couple of years, with Rory and his team having to adapt to all of the changes required to trade safely during Covid restrictions, it has been helpful that cash management was one less headache to have to consider. Rory was glad that decision had been made in advance of Covid, so everything was already in place.

Does Rory miss his walk to the bank?!

Rory has had to find other ways to add his exercise into this day!

The Harbourmaster is trading fully as business life has resumed in Amsterdam’s City Centre, and Rory, like many other managers and owners, is busier than ever with all the other aspects of running a buoyant hospitality business.

On reflection Rory admits that these days, there is no way he would have the time in his jam-packed day to be doing trips to the bank, so he’s delighted to have that time in the business, tending to other important decisions. He estimates that over time Corporate Finance International has saved him 10 hours each week.

Any other advice for other businesses considering using a cash management provider?

In Rory’s words: “Just do the numbers and you’ll see for yourself.”

In every business, business owners & managers are trying to remove costs and find more efficient ways to use their time. With staff shortages impacting businesses across the board Rory taking time out to count and deposit cash each day was not ideal, and he’s glad to be able to have this time back.

GSLS’ cash management services including cash delivery, cash collection, cash processing and cash-in-transit, provides a single, simple, cost-effective solution, removing hassle and cost every day.
